SiEPIC 3MT Competition 2013

CREATE SiEPIC Program's first Three Minute Thesis competition

SiEPIC 3MT video competition is a web version of the globally acclaimed 3MT competition, which was introduced by The University of Queensland in 2008 and is now held annually in many universities around the world including UBC.

SiEPIC 3MT video competition and its purpose

Students participating in our program record their three minute video to present the breadth and significance of their ongoing research work in the field of Silicon Photonics, in a manner which can be easily understood by a non-specialist audience. This exercise also helps the students in developing their research presentation and communcation skills which is one of the main goals of the CREATE training program.

The videos are open for the public voting and are uploaded on the YouTube. We invite you to visit the following link to view and vote the video(s) presented by the SiEPIC scholars. Vote using the "thumbs-up" feature in YouTube.

Students are voted and judged based on the following criteria:

  • Comprehension: Did the presentation help you understand the research?
  • Engagement: Did the presenter convey enthusiasm for their work and make you know more about their research?
  • Communication style: Was the research topic communicated in an appropriate language and style
